Well, hello there! My name is Alyssa. I’m an avid cyclist who has been pedaling these mean streets since I can remember starting to move. I named this site “Cagefreed” because that’s exactly how I live my life – sans car. For the last five years, I have been a vehicle-free citizen, and I love it. This doesn’t mean I don’t ever use a car. Of course, sometimes I need to get places by a faster means, and I use a car-sharing service. But 99% of the time, you’ll find me using my own two legs to pedal myself where I need to go. An 80-mile round trip by bike to visit my parents is chosen over a car ride most of the time. I value cycling in all of its forms and refuse to limit myself to one single type. Whether a casual cruise on my trusty Surly single speed, unsupported gravel racing, bike packing, cyclocross, single track, or even bike polo; you name it, I will try it. I still need to get on that unicycle game though. I’m not a professional, and I’m unlikely to win any races, but I will enjoy (dying) trying. I ride to prove to my mind and body that it’s more than capable. Here I plan on documenting some of my many adventures on two wheels, many in my home state of Minnesota but out-of-state adventures too. I will be writing some of my thoughts and experiences as a female cyclist both viewing and experiencing the sport and commuter biking. I hope we can re-live adventuring together and discuss our own cycling experiences, concerns, or the cycling world – especially for females.
